Understanding Category Mapping in Your Product Feed

The Category Mapping tool is a crucial feature in the feed settings interface, designed to enhance the organization and relevance of your product feed. Here’s how you can effectively use this tool:

Location and Layout:

Find the Category Mapping tool on the right side of the feed settings interface. It displays a table with three columns: “Shop Category,” “Feed Category,” and “Products.”

Selecting Categories for Inclusion:

The primary purpose of this tool is to let you choose which categories from your webshop you want to include in the feed. Additionally, for channels with their own categorization system (like Google), it allows for the mapping of your shop categories to the corresponding channel-specific categories.
To include all your shop categories in the feed, click the ‘Select’ field at the top left corner of the table. For a more selective approach, use the checkbox next to each category you wish to include.

Mapping to Channel Categories:

After selecting your shop categories, the “Feed Category” column will show “Map to Default Category (edit).” This means your chosen categories are linked to a default channel category set earlier. To change this, click ‘Edit’ and select a more suitable channel category from the dropdown.
The dropdown will list available categories for the specific channel you’re working with. If the channel doesn’t have predefined categories, an editable text field will appear for manual entry.
For channels like Google Merchant, there’s an option to “Select by Category Number,” enabling direct input of the Google Category ID number.

Handling Multi-Category Products:

Products categorized under multiple shop categories are handled through integration with SEO plugins like Yoast SEO or Rank Math SEO. These plugins help determine a product’s default category, which the Category Mapping tool then utilizes.

After setting up your category mappings, ensure to save your configurations by clicking the ‘Save’ button. With your categories neatly organized and mapped, your product feed becomes more structured and channel-compliant, ready for the next steps in feed optimization.
